The Story Cauldron

Emotional, technical, and artistic support to help conjure, stir and distill the story you were born to write.

What is The Story Cauldron?

A two-week 1:1 creative immersion for women who feel a story stirring inside them, and are finally ready to bring it into form. Whether it’s a novel, memoir, Substack publication, single piece, or a hybrid of everything you are, The Story Cauldron is a space to uncover your voice, map your story’s bones, and write in a way that feels honest, immersive, and you.

Things I’ve learned after years of writing memoir and perspective pieces on Substack, poetry, and my debut epic fantasy fiction…

  • Your voice is the most important thing – can the reader feel you and your style in the story? It’s very common for writing to be technically sound, and still emotionally flat. It’s also very common for a story to be “good” but still not memorable or lasting. Your voice is what makes the difference.

  • Is your reader emotionally invested from the first line? Most writers begin at the chronological start of a story, rather than the moment the story becomes interesting to a stranger—this is true for both fiction and non-fiction. We want to ensure readers feel instant emotional buy-in from the first line. Understanding your emotional hook and premise is key here.

  • Are you hitting emotional beats that make the reader feel like they’re in your story? This comes down to the principle of show, don’t tell. Don’t tell me you or your character were devastated—tell me you felt like your heart was ripping in two, that you couldn’t breathe, that you kept praying to wake up from the nightmare. Emotional beats will help you do this.

  • Do you prompt thematic contemplation, or are you preaching? Nobody wants to be told how to feel or what to think—can you coax a contemplation out of your reader instead? Weaving themes through your story is essential for this.

  • What is the energetic trademark that you leave in your work? What makes it identifiable and undeniably yours?

  • Do you know your own writing process and style? Do you garden and explore, or plan and build before putting pen to paper?

Do you want your writing to sink into the marrow of someone’s bones?

Want to leave a mark on readers that stays long after they’ve read your work?

Want to have such an undeniable voice and style that your work is inimitable?

Want to not just be a writer, but a storyteller?

And even more than that, a storyteller who pulls people into immersive worlds where your writing lives?

That’s where The Story Cauldron comes in…
